Empowerment of women has been constantly promoted by ONGC Foundation through various activities. On similar grounds, to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8th March,2020, Sewa International’s Yearly Flagship event of ‘FyunliKauthig’ was organised in the Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand with the encouragement and support from ONGC Foundation. The term ‘FyunliKauthig’ signifies the arrival of spring with the blossoming of local Fyunli flower. About 6000 women had participated in various programmes organised by Sewa international like health, Skill Training, Agriculture, Knitting. Participants came from remote villages to Rudraprayag and Chamoli to perform their cultural dances, songs and skits. This event was to celebrate the never-say-die attitude of the Uttarakhand Women. The theme for this year’s FyunliKauthig event was ‘Mero Gaon, Mero Kauthig’.
The construction of 54 dwelling units for the people affected by GAJA cyclone has been taken up by LAFTI (Land for Tillers' Freedom). Out of these 54 dwelling units, 44 houses have already been completed up to the roof.
There are almost 300 people who will benefit from the success of this project. Community ownership and the cooperation from the people tremendously helped in this project. Local economy was boosted as materials like bricks were purchased locally. With the help of local labourers and people who voluntarily laboured for the construction of the houses, the construction of many of these dwelling units has been possible. ONGC Foundation has been collaborating with LAFTI for the effective implementation of this initiative.
The facilities here are provided at a nominal or no cost. ONGC Foundation had extended financial support for the implementation of this project. The scope of the project included a community hall, a cultural program stage, toilets, two dressing rooms, and an office cum conference hall, a Library and a common pandal. The estimated beneficiaries of the project were 5000 people who are living in Talcher town and its nearby villages like Kishorpal, Kanki, Kakundi, etc.
Self-employment is a step towards reducing the unemployment rates and also promoting individuals as self-reliant. Such a similar initiative was undertaken by the Process & Product Development Centre, Agra –an autonomous body under Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, (MSME), Govt. of India for this Skill Development and Entrepreneurship project. “Small is Beautiful”- an initiative for creating self-employment for 20,000 people in Varanasi, UP financially supported by ONGC Foundation.
This was a pilot project wherein the implementing agency aimed to provide infrastructural support to 210 small business owners/traders/street vendors. The project included designing, procurement and distribution of Kiosk to 210 small business owners/Traders and street Vendors in the non –farming sectors of Varanasi. The 210 Kiosks would be designed by the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad and manufactured by the Indo Danish Tool Room (IDTR), Jamshedpur, an autonomous Tool Room under the Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India. It was proposed to support the small vendors by providing 100 Units of Fruit & Vegetable Vending Cart, 100 Units of Pre-fabricated Multipurpose Kiosks and 10 Units of Foldable Barber Mirror stand and bag pack as a pilot project. The project will help in improving the cleanliness and aesthetics of the vulnerable locations where the target beneficiaries usually operate.
210 numbers of local residents / street vendors / Micro Business Owners / Traders of Tea, Snacks, Fruits, Vegetable, Milk, Hair Salon, etc and focusing on small vendors at tourist places, rural and urban markets areas, bus stands, railway stations, etc. has been considered to be the beneficiaries from this project.
Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh is the largest human congregation in the world. More than 15 Crore pilgrims across the world participate in Kumbh Mela every year. Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj has been included in the “Intangible Cultural Humanity” list by UNESCO. This year, for Kumbh Mela 2019, there was a special focus on sanitation and cleanliness. It was widely recognized as Swachh Kumbh. Over 1.2 Lakh toilets were constructed across the Mela area and these were cleaned and maintained by nearly 15,000 Sanitation Workers working round the clock. Besides, various campaigns such as celebration of World Toilet Day, Workshops for capacity building of Swachhagrahis, creative paintings all over the city, etc. were organized during the Kumb hMela 2019. The level of cleanliness at Swachh Kumbh has been appreciated by people all over the world.
As a gesture of gratitude towards the Sanitation Workers for their untiring service to the SwachhKumbh, the Govt. of India and Govt. of Uttar Pradesh is trying to put together a basket of flagship Government schemes/ other welfare benefits. These welfare benefits include:
(i) Accident and life insurance by way of sponsoring their premiums for Pradhan Mantri Surakhsa Bima Yojaya and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan BimaYojana
(ii) Accesses to pensions through one-time contribution on their behalf to Pradhan Mantri
Shram Yogi Maandhan
(iii) Education Scholarships to their children
(iv) Access to other flagship government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
Ayushman Bharat Yojana, etc.
For ensuring the welfare of the sanitation workers and appreciating their efforts throughout the Kumbh Mela, ONGC Foundation has financially supported this noble cause.
ONGC Foundation has been actively partaking in various events across the nation to address diverse ideas and culture.
The GPL Utsav 2020 was organised at the cricket stadium of the Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management on 14th, 15th and 16th February, 2020.People from all age groups including the children, youth and elders participated in this three-day event. There were various events organised for the entertainment of the audiences like kite flying, Kids zone and Entertainment, Workshops, Flea Markets and boating at the event venue itself. There were many more events like the cricket match, fusion band, Zumba Night and entrepreneurs meet. The main aim of this program was to promote culture. This event was enthusiastically supported by ONGC Foundation.
The 4th International Maithili Cultural Mahotsav was organised on 17th August, 2019 at New Delhi. Maithili is an Indo-Aryan language, native to the Indian Subcontinent, mainly spoken in India and Nepal. In India, our Ex-Prime Minister Bharat Ratna awardee Shri Atal Bihari ji has added Maithili language in the 8th list of the constitution. It is spoken in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand and is one of the 22 recognized Indian Languages and 8 Crore people are well versed with this language. Hind post has been organizing Maithili Cultural Mahotsav event since the last 3 years to promote and create awareness about Maithili language among people. Hind Post organised the 4th Maithili Cultural Mahotsav on 17th August, 2019 where various events like dance, music, and lectures were included to promote the Maithili culture.
The Padma Vibhushan awardee Mr. Udit Narayan Jha, and other great personalities of political, entertainment and literature backgrounds attended as guests in the program. The main activities that were organised on this occasion were: Felicitation of great personalities who have tremendous contribution in promoting Maithili Language, discussions and deliberations on various ways to promote the language, seminars and lectures on various topics, creating awareness among people through this program, organizing cultural programs and Maithili painting competition.
